Behind the Build: Chopper

Behind the Build: Chopper

October 9, 2026

Chopper was finished this week.

Matt started the Piece on October 2 and completed it October 8, with about 4.5 working days in the build.

Chopper is a welded steel anglerfish built from salvaged steel, mesh, chopper motorcycle gears, and reclaimed mechanical components. Those motorcycle gears are also where the Piece got its name.

The finished sculpture has an exaggerated open mouth lined with jagged steel teeth, layered fins, mechanical details throughout, and an illuminated lure that changes color above its head. Different angles reveal different parts of the construction, from the gears and mesh to the open framework behind the fins.

Chopper measures 24 inches high, 19 inches wide, and 32 inches deep.

It is one of one, currently available for $4,000, and can be viewed in Oceanside, California, by appointment.
