Is every Piece one of a kind?

Yes. Each sculpture is one of one and is not repeated.

Matt often works with previously used industrial and mechanical materials, and the Piece develops through the build rather than from a fixed production pattern. Even when two works begin with similar materials or ideas, they are not made as editions or reproductions.

Can I commission something?

Yes. Matt takes on commissions for sculpture and select one-off builds.

A commission usually begins with a conversation rather than a complete specification. If you have an idea, a place the work needs to live, a material with meaning to you, or even a rough sketch, send Nikki a note and start there.

The finished work will still be its own Piece rather than a reproduction of something Matt has already made.

What is the metal before Matt gets it?

It varies.

Matt works with chain, gears, cylinders, bumpers, bar stock, plate, mechanical parts and other industrial material. Some components arrive with a known history. Others do not.

When we know what a component was or where it came from, we record that with the Piece. When we do not know, we leave it unknown rather than invent a history for it.

Can I buy directly from the site?

Not at the moment. There is no online checkout.

Available Pieces are handled by inquiry so Nikki can answer questions about the work, confirm availability and work through the practical details of getting it where it needs to go.

Who will I hear back from?

Nikki.

She handles inquiries directly and brings Matt into the conversation when it needs him.

Do you make anything besides sculpture?

Yes. Matt also takes on select functional and one-off metal builds, including railings, mailboxes, birdhouses, and projects that do not come out of a catalog.

Sculpture is the primary body of work presented through Blessinger, but it is not the only kind of work Matt builds.

A piece I like is marked sold. Can Matt make another?

Not the same one.

Each sculpture remains one of one. A sold Piece can still be useful for showing Matt what caught your attention, whether that was the scale, movement, character, material or something harder to name.

From there, the conversation would be about creating a new Piece rather than reproducing the old one.
