About Matt
Most people see junk. I see possibility. Most people see rust. I see history. Most people see something that's finished. I see something waiting to become.
I don't rescue metal. I transform it. Because I had to do the same thing with myself.
I build one-of-one sculptures out of steel that already lived a life. Chain, gears, cylinders, bumpers, worn bar stock, plate with the marks of whatever it used to be. I don't start with a drawing. I start with one piece. Then the sculpture reveals itself.
I'm still a little surprised that folks want them in their yards and living rooms. Grateful every time.
There's more to the story than that, and Nikki is helping me put it down in words — the part where I was on my way to the scrap pile too, and what it took to come back off of it. That'll live here soon.
For now: if a piece stops you, reach out. Nikki reads every note herself.
