Rock Star is built from parts that already carried evidence of what they had done before Matt found them.

A cement mixer head became part of the figure. An engine body joined it. A safe became the amp.

Other parts caught Matt's attention because of the history visible in the metal itself. One section of old chain had been worn nearly through by years of use. A component from a 1943 compressor became part of the Piece.

That kind of wear matters to Matt. Not because every old part needs a grand symbolic explanation, but because use leaves something behind — shape, damage, texture and history that new material does not have.

Rock Star stands 104 inches tall, 96 inches wide and 55 inches deep.

It is available and can be seen in Oceanside, California, by appointment.
