I knew I wanted to build a hermit crab when I started Herby. I began with a welding gas cap and used rebar, sheet metal, motorcycle sprockets and hitch pins to build the rest.
I wanted to work on something smaller, and this was just a Piece I felt like making. Everything fit together perfectly fine. Once I added the legs, he really came to life.
My favorite part is the shell and all the little details that went into making it.
As for the name, Herby just rhymed with hermit crab. That's really all there is to it.
