Chopper is a welded steel anglerfish built from salvaged metal and reclaimed mechanical components. The Piece gets its name from the chopper motorcycle gears incorporated into the sculpture.

Its exaggerated mouth, jagged steel teeth, mechanical eye details, layered fins, and illuminated lure give it a strange, animated character from every angle. The lure changes color, adding another element of movement and personality to the Piece.

The illuminated lure is programmable, with adjustable colors, patterns, and speeds that can change the look and movement of the Piece.

Matt built Chopper from October 2–8, 2026, completing the sculpture in approximately 4.5 working days.

Chopper is available to view in Oceanside, California, by appointment.
