Charlie began with the bottom of a cylinder.
Matt looked at the shape and saw the body of a pelican.
That was enough to start.
Railroad spikes became legs. The body developed from the first shape, then continued changing as Matt added mechanical and interactive details simply because they made the Piece more interesting to him.
Charlie is a good example of the way Matt often works. One component does not give him a blueprint. It gives him somewhere to begin.
He sees something in the shape, starts building, and lets the character become clearer as the Piece develops.
Charlie was completed in 2026 and measures 47 inches high, 84 inches wide and 42 inches deep.
It is available and can be seen in Oceanside, California, by appointment.
